Form of Government

The legislative body of the Town of Canton is a combination of the Town Meeting and the Board of Selectmen.

Our Chief Elected Official is the First Selectman.  In addition, a Chief Administrative Officer is directly responsible to the Board of Selectmen and has responsibility for and authority over both the administration and personnel of all departments and Agencies, except where otherwise provided by the General Statutes, Charter, or Ordinance. There are many Board, Commissions and Committees that serve the Town of Canton.
