Fire Marshal

Some of the duties of the Office of the Fire Marshal: 

  • Code compliance inspections in accordance with CT General Statutes Chapter 541 Section 29-305
  • Site visits during construction
  • Investigations of all fires that occur within the Town of CantonPlan review for new construction as well as renovations or modifications within existing structures
  • Hazardous materials inspections, including transport vehicles registered in the Town of Canton
  • Public fire education
  • Continuing education: The Fire Marshal and Deputy Fire Marshal are required to take a minimum of 90 hours of continuing education every 3 years

Burning Permits are required before any outdoor burning can occur. The fee for one day Burning Permits is $25.

Plan Reviews are required for any new construction, alteration of an existing building or change of use of a building, other than a one or two family home, to check for compliance with the Connecticut Fire Safety Code.
